Altman tells companies to put AI security threats ahead of productivity gains
Speaking with Oracle CEO Clay Magouyrk at Oracle AI World in Las Vegas, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said his top short-term advice for companies is to understand and mitigate the security threats AI creates, even ahead of using tools like Codex to boost productivity. He said he was shocked at how many vulnerabilities AI systems are finding and that patching every bug one by one across the software supply chain is too hard, so companies will need new services that constantly monitor traffic and block exploits. Magouyrk countered that AI isn't creating the bugs but surfacing flaws built up over decades. The remarks follow the AI-discovered PHP vulnerabilities that the FBI warned about on Oct. 21, and Altman's earlier warning of a coming 'tidal wave' of cyber problems from open-source models.
