Connecticut lawmakers push statewide moratorium on new AI data centers
Connecticut Senate Majority Leader Bob Duff said he will introduce a bill in the 2027 session pausing new AI data centers statewide until the state sets rules on power use, electricity costs and environmental protections. The push has bipartisan support, with Republican Sen. Jeff Gordon also urging caution. East Lyme, Groton, New Haven, West Haven, Trumbull and Morris have already enacted local bans or moratoria, and Gov. Ned Lamont said in Thursday's debate that the state has not allowed big AI data centers in and doesn't expect to.
