Nvidia orders cloud clients to sell at least 51% of their compute to non-Chinese customers, FT reports
Nvidia has verbally told cloud and data-center customers worldwide that at least 51% of the computing services they sell must go to non-Chinese companies, the Financial Times reported, citing five people familiar with the matter. The rule, relayed by Nvidia's sales and regional teams since the summer with no written documentation, applies to future contracts but not existing leases. It targets Chinese firms that rent Nvidia-powered capacity in overseas data centers to work around US export controls. Nvidia neither confirmed nor denied the report, saying American model makers need clouds built on US chips to compete worldwide; China's foreign ministry said it was not aware of it.
