Nvidia in talks to backstop billions in debt for Nscale's Anthropic data center
Nvidia is in talks to provide billions of dollars in credit guarantees to help AI cloud provider Nscale fund a 460-megawatt data center in West Virginia that Anthropic plans to use, The Information reported. The support would be a residual value guarantee on the facility itself, covering power infrastructure and construction rather than leases or chips, which would let Nscale borrow at investment-grade terms; Nvidia, already an Nscale investor, would step in if Nscale defaulted. The deal is unsigned and terms could change. Anthropic agreed in August to spend $45 billion renting compute from the campus.
