Cate Blanchett-backed group and Hollywood stars file brief backing NYT in OpenAI copyright suit

The Human Consent Foundation, the Cate Blanchett-backed nonprofit, filed a 31-page amicus brief in the Southern District of New York supporting The New York Times' summary-judgment bid against OpenAI and Microsoft. Joined by CAA, the Music Artists Coalition, the National Association of Voice Actors, Writer, Inc. and the Creative Coalition on AI, the brief argues the creative industries already have proven, cost-effective infrastructure to clear rights at scale, disputing the defendants' claim that licensing training data is cost-prohibitive. An appendix lists supporters including Anne Hathaway, Emma Thompson, Ron Howard, Madonna and Olivia Wilde. It follows a separate brief filed by SAG-AFTRA, the Writers Guild of America and the American Federation of Musicians.
