SK Hynix posts record quarter as AI memory demand outstrips supply

SK Hynix reported record third-quarter results, with revenue of 104.6 trillion won (about $78.9 billion), up 328% from a year earlier and above 100 trillion won for the first time, and operating profit of 83.3 trillion won, up 632% and well ahead of the 76.7 trillion won analysts expected. HBM4 shipments ramped and server DDR5 sales jumped, pushing operating margin to a record 80%. The Nvidia supplier said its DRAM and HBM volumes are effectively sold out through 2029, with long-term contracts from 14 customers covering more than half of its 2027 and 2028 capacity, and it expects memory demand to outpace supply through 2030. It also plans to return about 100 trillion won to shareholders this year. Shares closed nearly 11% higher in Seoul.
