Anthropic buys Mithril Medicine, a one-person biotech

Anthropic acquired Mithril Medicine, a Cambridge, Massachusetts biotech whose founder, Cody Tranbarger, was its only full-time employee and used Claude to coordinate contracts, logistics and experiments across 11 outside labs. Mithril took a possible treatment for LAMA2-related muscular dystrophy from idea to promising mouse results in under 18 months; the results come from a technical report that hasn't been peer reviewed. The deal closed in July and was disclosed Tuesday. Mithril's two rare-disease programs become Anthropic's first in-house drug pipeline, with a possible human trial as soon as late 2028, and Anthropic also detailed Claude drug-development work with six partners including Bristol Myers Squibb.
