AMD to pay about $2.9 billion for AI inference chip startup Taalas, filing shows
AMD's quarterly 10-Q, filed Wednesday, puts a price on the Taalas deal it announced in August without terms: a cash-and-stock transaction valued at about $2.9 billion, including up to roughly $1.4 billion in contingent consideration. Toronto-based Taalas, founded in 2023 by former AMD executives, designs inference chips that hardwire specific AI models into silicon. The Globe and Mail reports it is one of the largest takeovers of a Canadian tech company; AMD expects the deal to close by the end of 2026, pending regulatory approval.
