Sam Altman says his 'terrible' RAM-in-PCs comments were taken out of context
After backlash over his Cheeky Pint podcast remark that it's "quite terrible" for scarce DRAM to sit in personal computers used about 5% of the time instead of running in AI data centers, the OpenAI CEO renamed himself "Ram Altman" on X and said he wants people to put as much memory in their computers as they want. He called the reaction to his comments, made while discussing local AI inference, "fucking annoying" and said he has long argued for the world to ramp up memory production. AI data-center demand has driven a global RAM shortage and steep consumer hardware price increases.
