Argentina's Milei pitches a regulation-free AI haven in Patagonia
President Javier Milei is pitching Argentina as a haven for AI data centers as backlash against the facilities grows in the US and Europe, telling the US Chamber of Commerce 'we are not going to regulate artificial intelligence.' A bill awaiting Senate approval would cut the corporate income tax rate to 15% from 25% for AI projects of $1 billion or more. Patagonia offers open land, a cold climate and strong winds, but a proposed campus there wouldn't begin construction until about 2028 and would use roughly 2.7 times Buenos Aires' 2025 electricity, AP reports. Investors say they are still waiting for clarity on copyright and data-transfer rules.
