FTC demands Anthropic executives testify in expanding AI safety probe
The Federal Trade Commission on Monday sent demands for Anthropic executives to testify in its consumer-harm investigation, an FTC spokesperson told Axios, adding that individuals at other AI companies have also received testimony demands. The probe follows civil subpoenas sent earlier this month to Anthropic and OpenAI seeking documents on safety incidents, safeguards, marketing and privacy policies. The escalation lands the same day Anthropic is pitching investors on its IPO, after warning in its S-1 that the FTC investigation could bring significant costs and model design changes.
