Ukraine's drone strikes on Russian data centers set back Moscow's AI race, experts say

Ukrainian drones this month hit three Yandex data centers in Sasovo, Kaluga and Vladimir, Sberbank's Balakovo hub and a VKontakte facility in St. Petersburg, disrupting cloud, banking and ride-hailing services across Russia. The Sasovo site housed two of Yandex's three Nvidia A100-based supercomputers used to train YandexGPT, and experts told the AP that repairs could take months or years given Russia's limited access to advanced chips.
