Goldman Sachs restricts AI coding tools like Claude Code to engineers, cutting off traders and bankers
Goldman Sachs has limited Anthropic's Claude Code and Microsoft's GitHub coding tools to engineers under internal guidance updated in October, Bloomberg reports, after months of letting bankers and traders use them. Some traders who had used the tools to monitor client trading flows, model market and position changes and draft text and graphics are frustrated; "strats," who combine trading, quantitative research and engineering, keep access. A Goldman spokesperson said that after a period of experimentation weighing productivity and risk management, the bank put the tools with those best suited to use them long term. In July, CIO Marco Argenti had praised vibe coding by non-technical staff.
