Anthropic's IPO filing flags 'existential' AI risk, data center backlash and power shortages
More than 90 pages of Anthropic's S-1 are devoted to risk factors, CNBC reports, including a warning that its models could pose "catastrophic or existential risks to humanity" and that it can't guarantee its safety work will be adequate. The filing says organized opposition to data centers, with lawmakers in 16 states weighing moratoriums, could draw particular attention to projects tied to Anthropic, and that a lack of sufficient electrical power poses big risks. It also cites slower AI adoption and customers deciding cheaper or open-source models are good enough as threats to growth.
