GM says AI will cut its vehicle development time in half, to about two years
At its GM Forward event in New York, General Motors said AI simulation and concurrent design, engineering and manufacturing work will shrink new-vehicle development from four to five years to roughly two, a pace closer to Chinese rivals. Chief product officer Sterling Anderson said AI models trained on GM's fluid-dynamics data can return wind-tunnel-like results in about 60 seconds instead of 60 hours. GM also unveiled an in-house OnStar AI Assistant that will replace Google Gemini in its cars, debuting in the 2027 Cadillac Lyriq, and reconfirmed eyes-off highway driving starting with the 2028 Cadillac Escalade IQ.
