Google DeepMind engineer resigns in protest of Pentagon contract
Sofia Liguori, a London-based research engineer at Google DeepMind, resigned in protest this week over Google's military AI work, including its classified Pentagon contract and the Project Nimbus deal with Israel, The Intercept reports. In an internal letter announcing her departure, she urged colleagues to "stay human" and wrote that racing to deploy agentic AI right now "will definitely be a net evil." The BBC separately reports that other DeepMind staff, including researcher Andreas Kirsch, have recently quit or are leaving over the contracts.
