Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei defends safety record, cites China sales curbs in reply to critic
In a nearly 2,000-word post on X, Amodei answered Encode's Nathan Calvin, who argued Anthropic has undercut its safety commitments through more than $500 billion in computing deals, growing reliance on Claude to build new models and changes to its safety policy. Amodei conceded some of Calvin's examples were mistakes, including how Anthropic communicated its draft federal AI safety bill, but defended the company's 'race to the top' strategy. He listed commercially costly safety moves, among them being the only frontier lab to restrict sales to PRC-controlled companies, strict biological-weapons safeguards and holding back general access to Mythos-class models from February until June.
