Activists rally outside OpenAI's San Francisco headquarters as nationwide 'Freeze AI Now' walkout hits 50 cities
About two dozen protesters rallied outside OpenAI's office in San Francisco's Bayview district on Tuesday, holding signs reading "We Didn't Elect Big Tech" and "Water For People, Not Data Centers," KQED reported. The rally was part of a nationwide walkout organized by the nonprofit Irreplaceable, with actions across 50 U.S. cities and college campuses, including Los Angeles, New York and Florida, demanding a freeze on AI development until the public and Congress set guardrails. Irreplaceable, led by 350.org co-founder Phil Aroneanu, has laid out a three-year plan building toward a pressure campaign in the 2028 election but has not yet detailed the legislation it wants.
