At least 47 major US AI data center projects stalled in 2026, FT reports
The Financial Times, citing RegLayer data, reports that at least 47 large US data center projects have been delayed, withdrawn or blocked this year, a count it calls conservative because it covers only the biggest sites. More than 1,000 US communities have sought moratoriums or other limits, and Bernstein estimates only about 35% of the planned US pipeline is credible. The strain is also showing in credit markets, with AI infrastructure debt selling off this week, and data center restrictions have become a contested issue in the November midterms.
