Anthropic to commit 5% of its shares to a new public benefit fund
Anthropic said Sunday it will put 5% of its shares, subject to stockholder approval, into a new Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, with another 2% added at the board's discretion for every 50% rise in the company's value above an undisclosed baseline. The fund will be a wholly owned LLC rather than a charity, could back nonprofit donations, direct payments to specific groups and efforts to address AI's impact on jobs, and won't use its equity for lobbying or political giving. Combined with earlier founder and employee pledges, Anthropic says roughly 20% of its shares would be dedicated to the public good.
