Nvidia's China AI-chip share falls to 34% as Huawei closes the gap, IDC data shows
Nvidia's share of China's data-center AI chip market fell to 34% in the first half of 2026, according to an IDC report seen by Reuters, as US export controls limited what it can sell and Beijing pushed buyers toward domestic chips. Nvidia shipped 678,000 AI accelerators in China from January through June, down 44% from a year earlier, while Huawei shipped 572,000, up from more than 300,000, for a 28% share. Alibaba's T-Head, Cambricon, Baidu's Kunlunxin and Hygon followed, and non-GPU accelerators overtook GPUs by volume, IDC said.
