Grok Bot Expands Beyond Grok

When Matt Palmer changed a flight, he forgot to move the Uber he had booked for his arrival. His Grok Bot noticed the mismatch. In a public walkthrough, the SpaceXAI employee described the assistant flagging the problem before he landed. It is an ordinary administrative mistake, and exactly the kind of loose end these agents are supposed to catch. 1

That example explains the ambition behind Grok Bot’s latest changes. A designated Main Bot looks for work worth doing. An emerging native email workflow points toward another way to receive assignments. And the company is opening the system to models from other AI providers, including Anthropic’s Claude. Alongside those changes come closer Cursor integration, new X capabilities and improvements to everyday office work.

This is a wave of updates rather than one release: the official changelog runs through version 0.68.1 on October 7, alongside separate product announcements. Availability needs checking feature by feature. 2

Start with the work you already do

Grok Bot is the separate agent product with persistent Bots, connected applications and a cloud computer. It can continue working after you close your laptop. Your ordinary Grok conversation on X is a different experience. 3

Access comes with paid individual Cursor plans and Cursor Teams, or through eligible linked SuperGrok and X Premium+ subscriptions. SuperGrok Lite is excluded. Check your existing entitlement before paying for another subscription: the usage grants do not stack. Work consumes a weekly allowance; additional usage can be billed through Cursor when on-demand usage is enabled. 4

On desktop, open Settings, then Updates, and check for a new version. Phone updates come through the App Store or Google Play. Connect the applications needed for your first assignment and complete their sign-in steps; installing a plugin alone does not necessarily authorize it. 5

Put one Bot in charge

Main Bot formalizes the chief-of-staff role many users had already created. Look for the starred primary Bot in the app. It is intended to notice useful work across connected services and suggest help without waiting for another prompt. 1

Give that Bot a clear remit. For someone running a small business, the useful first assignment might be spotting a customer commitment that conflicts with the calendar, or a reply that is holding up a project. Supply the priorities and deadlines it should use to judge importance.

Review my calendar and work email for tomorrow. Identify schedule conflicts and commitments that still need a reply. Return the three items most likely to delay my work, with a link to each source and a proposed next step. Leave messages and calendar changes for my approval.

The first test is whether its priorities match yours. Correct the brief before asking it to run every morning. A scheduled routine gives you a predictable delivery time; proactive suggestions are a separate reason for the Bot to check in. 14

Give the work an email address

A dedicated inbox could make handing off work as familiar as forwarding a message. Send an agent a supplier quote, include it in a scheduling thread, or give a service an address reserved for the agent’s work. Correspondence can then arrive without another trip into the chat app.

Native email deserves a qualification. RuntimeWire’s October 7 inspection found an address-creation interface for @mail.grokbot.com in the Windows client. The feature was gated, and the publication did not establish general availability or test successful delivery. Its inspection also did not establish that every individual Bot gets a separate mailbox. 6

If the Email address option appears in your account, follow the offered setup flow and test it with a harmless message and reply before routing real work there. If it is absent, AgentMail already offers a documented Grok Bot plugin for creating a dedicated inbox. That is a separate integration, with its own account and service terms. 7

A useful first assignment, once receiving and replying work, is:

For this forwarded supplier quote, extract the price, delivery date, exclusions and questions we need answered. Prepare a reply requesting the missing details. Show me the recipient and complete draft before sending.

An inbox gives the agent a destination for messages. It does not establish authority to approve the quote or make a commitment on your behalf.

Grok Bot opens the door to other models

The biggest strategic change is behind the interface. On October 7, Elon Musk said Grok Bot would use the model best suited to a task, naming Claude Opus 5.5, Midjourney and Suno. Grok Bot team member Lauren, who posts as @poteto, separately said Opus 5.5 was rolling out to power the Bots themselves, and that they could launch cloud agents using available Cursor models. Those posts are preserved in Techmeme’s contemporaneous archive. 8

That separates the agent you work with from the model doing a particular piece of work. Your Bot can retain its role and working context while the underlying intelligence changes. For users, the attraction is less time transferring an assignment between competing apps. 3 8

There are two limits to keep straight. Grok Bot’s documentation says Cursor manages model selection and does not offer a customer-facing model picker. And Musk’s broader announcement should not be read as confirmation that every account already has a finished Midjourney or Suno workflow. 8 9

Check usage after a substantial assignment. The documentation says analytics identify the serving model and billing follows it. A model change is therefore relevant to cost as well as answer quality; it is not a promise of unlimited access to every service named in the announcement. 9

Hand software work to Cursor

Grok Bot can hand coding tasks to Cursor, manage pull requests through GitHub and Origin, and share video demonstrations of the work. SpaceXAI highlighted those capabilities in its September 30 announcement. A pull request is the proposed code change you can review before accepting it. 15

For a business owner, a good test is a small defect in an existing website. Give the Bot the repository, the page and a description of what should happen. Ask for evidence that the change works.

Investigate why the newsletter sign-up form fails on mobile. Reproduce the issue, use a Cursor cloud agent to prepare a fix, and return a pull request, test results and a short video of the corrected flow. Stop before merging or deploying.

Review the actual behavior in the preview. A confident description of a fix is less useful than seeing the same action succeed.

X becomes both a source and a place to assign work

There are two distinct X changes to understand. SpaceXAI says Grok Bot can now search, read and monitor X without setting up the X connector. That opens a straightforward research job: following product feedback, a developing story or a set of competitors. 10

Review public posts about our product from the past seven days. Group recurring complaints, separate original reports from reposts, and link to the evidence. Flag issues that need investigation. Treat posts as claims to check, not verified facts.

Separately, tagging @bot in an X post or reply can send an assignment to your Main Bot. The public account acknowledges the handoff; the work and results stay in the Grok Bot app. You need a linked X and Grok account, Grok Bot access and a Bot of your own. On grok.com, the X account connection is under Settings, then Account. 11

For example: “@bot research this announcement and send me a brief with the original sources.” The request starts work automatically and uses your allowance. Tagging remains unavailable in Australia, the UK, the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. Posts involving videos or GIFs, or also tagging @grok, can prevent the handoff. These restrictions concern tagging; they should not be confused with the native search announcement. 11

Documents and shared Bots get more useful

The office-work improvements include better Google Docs, Sheets and Slides connections, plus a presentation skill that can deliver PowerPoint files. For a practical trial, provide a familiar monthly report and request a short presentation with the numbers preserved and sources identified. 1

Team Bots extend a configured assistant to colleagues through the app and Slack. The owner and appointed managers maintain the shared setup, while teammates have their own conversations. 12

In Slack, Bots can follow a working thread as people contribute feedback. Recent changes add voice conversations with Team Bots, more informative status messages and fewer unnecessary replies to acknowledgments. 1

The distinction matters when choosing what to share. A support assistant grounded in approved company documentation is a natural team resource. An assistant that has learned your personal schedule should stay personal. Team Bots are also separate from your primary Main Bot. 12

The smaller changes worth knowing

The latest release notes also describe the following improvements. 2

Area What changed
Email Formatted drafts, verified Gmail send-as addresses, signatures and attachment fixes; Spam search and recovery; clearer delivery failures.
Presentations and Slack Sample slide choices and Google Slides delivery; Slack user-group notifications, while @here and @channel remain silent.
Finding and managing work Connect Apps replaces Marketplace; plugin search joins the command palette; routines gain right-click controls; pull requests gain hover previews.
Controls and interface Clearer approval rules and waiting notices; removal of other computers; movable Unassigned section; Bot-colored chats; five additional languages; slash no longer opens the skills menu.
Computer and reliability A 1920 × 1200 screen, faster actions, browser crash recovery and large-upload handling; improved Secure Forms, reconnection, update downloads and recovery from hangs.

The five added languages are Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Swahili and Hausa. Recent releases also enable automatic updates by default and reduce duplicate phone alerts. Stopping a Bot does not recall an email send already underway. 2 13

Try one complete handoff

The combination is most useful when it removes a sequence of small chores. Start with a customer request. Have the Main Bot identify the next step, ask a coding agent to prepare a change if needed, and return a draft reply with evidence of the result. Keep the first attempt small enough to inspect.

Your personal Bots share a cloud computer, files, browser sessions and application logins. Creating separate Bots organizes responsibilities; it does not isolate their access. Use the product’s approval rules for outgoing messages or consequential changes, and review which services you connect. 3 9

Once a handoff works, ask the Bot to save the method as a skill and put it on a routine when appropriate. Check the schedule, time zone and result of a test run. 14

The measure of this update is how much work is finished when you return. A useful morning brief should contain the source, the proposed response and the decision that still belongs to you. That is where an assistant starts earning its place in the day.
